It is our goal at SLC First Church of the Nazarene to grow in relationship with God and with each other, both individually and corporately. We see five primary components to this: Worship. Quite simply, this refers to recognizing and acknowledging who God is. It is foundational to everything else. The worship team has been known as "Audience of One" because our audience is God, not the people of church. All are welcome to join in ministry with the worship team. They generally rehearse on Thursday evenings, and gather again before church on Sunday mornings. - Spiritual Growth. Christianity is not about a religion, but about a relationship. As in a marriage or any other relationship, it can grow only when nurtured. To do this, we spend time discovering the nature of God through such avenues as Bible study, prayer, conversations with others, and so forth. The Sunday School Ministries section of our denomination's website also has some helpful resources.
Development of Community. Throughout history, God has done much work through groups of people, and not simply through individuals. Developing relationships with others helps us to grow and to serve together in ways that would not be possible alone. The Bible reminds us that we are intended to be both diverse and unified (for example, see Ephesians 4:1-16). Nurturing relationships with others is both a responsibility and a privilege. - Service to Others. Loving others prompts us to seek out what is best, which includes a wide variety of areas -- meeting physical needs, helping with budgeting, providing emotional support in difficult situations, and more. The possibilities are endless! If you would like to find a place to serve that fits your God-given gifts, abilities, experiences, and passions, contact the church office at 486-0522. Ministries are always in development, both within our church body and beyond it.
Local and Global Outreach. Ultimately, our desire is for everyone to know God and to accept the gracious gift of salvation offered to each individual through Jesus Christ. We share this hope with others, both locally and around the world. The Church of the Nazarene was founded nearly one hundred years ago with a strong commitment to this task, and currently has a presence in over 150 world areas.
