When Jesus was asked which commandment was the greatest, he replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Matthew 22:36-39). At Salt Lake City First Church of the Nazarene, we have chosen this Great Commandment as a guiding scripture for all we do.
Before Jesus returned to heaven, he told his disciples, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20). We seek to experience God’s love and to help others know that love also.
As we choose to live in relationship with God — learning about God, paying attention to God, honoring God, serving God — we allow Him to transform us, helping us to fully become the people we were created to be. We anticipate and celebrate God changing us in His good way.
